Greenhouse Thrips

The greenhouse thrips, Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouche). Nymphs are white to yellowish with red eyes. The adult's head, thorax, and abdomen are black. Their legs are light yellow. This thrip is a pest of greenhouse-grown plants and in central and southern Florida it also feeds on outdoor woody ornamentals, especially those in shaded areas. It feeds primarily on the foliage, first feeding on the lower leaf surface and later the upper surface. The host plant leaves become discolored and distorted between the lateral veins.

Common host plants: Azalea, ardisia, dogwood, hibiscus, magnolia, maple, palms, and viburnum.
